No that's not quite the same thing. What he wants is 'view unread posts'. There is a mod for this and it will be installed soon.

'View unread posts' has now been added (but only if you are using prosilver).

That's a good thing, surely? It means I then have control of my windows again.
If you're using Firefox, Safari or Opera, just middle-click the link to open it in a new tab. I think even Internet Explorer will do this now.
Tabs (y)
Windows (n)

Middle click? Don't think I've seen a mouse with a middle click, and certainly not something I have at work, and I have to use an old-ish version of explorer without a tabs option anyway... So no, I'm with Yoyo, I don't want a link I click on to take over the serp-road window. A link opening a new window is the option I need.

Don't know why, whether its the colours, brightness or something else, but I actually cannot use the forum at that setting for no more than 2 or 3 minutes before I have to log out! Sorry Steve

I can't see anything that would cause eye strain, except have you got the brightness turned up on your monitor? The colours are all whites and blues which are recommended colours for interface design. I do find the display a little bright but I've just jigged the display settings on my monitor.

I tried the prosilver skin on my home pc yesterday evening and dimmed my monitor settings, and I still got sore eyes & aching forehead. Same has happened just now (after 10mins) on a laptop at work which is even dimmer than my home pc. Odd I know, but something(s) on the prosilver setting is reacting badly with me. I'm apparently sensitive (allergic?) to certain type of lightings (something to do with frequencies or something) cos I used to get nauseaous when I worked in an engineering office with them fitted & they had to replace the lights in my room. Could there be something similar with certain combinations of colours on screens? Anyways I'm switch back to subfice2.

Generally, if your mouse has a scroll-wheel, you can press it (not roll it) & use it as a third button.
If you're using Internet Explorer (=<)6, then the option isn't available. Right-click the link and select "Open in new window" instead. Easy enough.

For Firefox users sans third button, you can set ctrl+click or a simultaneous left+right click as a middle click.

The difference is between you not wanting to use a context menu/simple solution & us not having our desktops taken hostage.

[critic]
Steve, is there a need for all those icons along the top? (eg. FAQ, Members, Gallery)
Makes it rather busy & harder to read.

They are needed if people want to access those features. It's not something I'm going to worry about.

It would look worse without them in my opinion.

I've been switching backwards and forwards between fi and pro and, now the changes have been made, (mainly the avatars on the left), I'm sticking with pro. Good work Steve!

Just one thing, we're still getting [color=red][u] infront of links. I think this was mentioned elsewhere. It's kindof annoying.

Yet I don't see any of the old threads come up in a search. Is there a cache in need of refreshing?

The word index is currently being rebuilt. It's going to take several hours to complete but already searches are bringing up more hits.
