Phpbb v3

Postby Steve » Fri Jan 11, 2008 11:51 pm

The forum will be switching to v3 of phpbb. Although most things will be converted, private messages will not be retained. If there are any messages you wish to keep then please manually copy them from the forum. The switchover will (hopefully) take place tomorrow evening.

Do you need to keep them all? I'll have a try at converting the private messages but the last few times I tried it failed.

Right I'm going to have an attempt at converting the forum. The forum will be disabled in 5 minutes.

Conversion complete and appears to have worked. All private messages have been retained too. There are some new features - particularly in the User Control Panel (left hand side of menu bar) - which you may want to investigate. There are some extra options in posts too. You can report posts for being off topic, rude or whatever and the traffic wardens will get flagged and deal with it. Anyway, have a look around and enjoy.

Nice work. Stylesheet quite busy, maybe a bit too busy. Maybe I'll get used to it.

This is the default. There are not many new styles around at the moment. If you see a nice one let me know.

So who are you going to add to your foes list

There's some cool new stuff on here. Automatic conversion of inline imagines to links or thumbnails. You can also add attachments too. That isn't working quite right yet. The permitted file types still need to be configured. The defaults are quite restrictive. But that can be done tomorrow. Now I'm off to bed.

Before switching to one of the old styles can you please give the default (prosilver) a go for a few days? I'd like to only have to maintain one of the styles when adding a new mod as it can get really time consuming having to deal with more - both making the change and testing it. It would be good if we could stick with just the one standard look for the site. It really doesn't take long to get used to the new style (prosilver) and the avatars being on the right. I didn't like it at all to begin with but after three days much prefer it to the old (fisubice) style. So please, just give it a few days before deciding you really don't like it.

The view new posts style on the default theme is hideous. Viewing threads isn't so bad, though.

Yes, I like the default scheme too. It's a change, but it's really working now I'm getting used to it. And think of Steve, it'll be WAAAY easier for him just to update one theme, and then also for that to be the default.
