Skatemania: Aintree Festival of Skating, 24-25th August 2013

Another event from Nick at SkateMania:

Think I'll be sticking to a main course of pan fried Sunday marathon, with possibly an entr├®e of grilled half marathon on the Sat...reason has now caught up with my early ambition to have a crack at the 24 hour event (the madness may yet return, of course ;) )

Any takers? Does this clash with another event down South?

What is a coarse surface? - all I can think of is coarse sand. I don't wish to skate on sand.

It does clash with an event down south as well

There's no sand! There's no beach in Aintree ;). It's tarmac. I asked Nick to explain what 'coarse' meant...he said it 'wasn't as smooth as Preston' (ie the cycle track used for the May 12th event, which is very smooooooth indeed), but 'not as rough as a road'. I asked if it was similar to Three Sisters racetrack in Ashton-in-Makerfield where we did a charity skate last year...'yes and no' was his answer - 'smoother in most places, some rough patches, but it's being worked on between now and the event so I won't be able to say for sure until nearer the time'.

Three Sisters was mostly pretty smooth. There were a couple of short teeth-rattling sections, but no worse than your average UK road. A mate of mine who's skated Goodwood said it was no worse than there.

If that helps, then there you go ;).

Apparently we'll be able to go for a test skate before the event - so as soon as I've done that, I'll post a warts and all of what it's like :).

I'm tempted to do the 24hour as a solo. It's got to be easier than Le mans.
