Bournemouth Skate?

Postby johnny88 » Sat Jan 19, 2013 5:46 pm

Hey everyone!

A few weeks ago we started an almost weekly meeting in Bournemouth, Dorset. I searched about the forum and found there's a few of us down this way (most the posts were dated 2008 and older =/).

Is there an already established skating group in the south west?

At the moment there's four of us at different levels but we have a good time mucking around and trying to teach ourselves to slalom!

Would anyone be interested in coming along?

We meet by the Bournemouth Balloon in the Lower Gardens https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ll=50.719283,-1.87819&spn=0.001387,0.003484&t=h&z=19 at around 1pm on Sundays (depending on the weather).

The paths are level with little leaf litter and smooth with easy access to the rest of Bournemouth. We can also move along a bit to 6.8 miles of tarmac promenade but it can get very sandy! https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=50.718539,-1.785952&daddr=Route+2&hl=en&ll=50.706786,-1.858578&spn=0.088817,0.222988&sll=50.718539,-1.785356&sspn=0.001387,0.003484&geocode=FUvnBQMdoL_k_w%3BFdaKBQMdP47i_w&t=h&dirflg=w&mra=ltm&z=13

Seeing as you are from Weymouth, wouldn't that be a better location for a skate? I know it's not as big as Bournemouth but it's a lot flatter. I'd be interested in joining in every other weekend if it was Weymouth but unfortunately can't make it as far as Bournemouth at that time of the day.

Hi there, a lot of us from Poole skate at Ferndown leisure centre from 1830-2030 on Sunday evening
Skating on the seafront in Bournemouth is hard work. The surface is so variable and the sand isn't good for bearings.
Our Sunday skate is inline and quad friendly with a good turn out

We are looking at another venue for another session very soon

Yeah, Weymouths esplanade was given a new surface for the Olympics so it's pretty smooth now and with the screens up there isn't too much sand around either, though the ravens have covered the ground in broken shells at the moment!
It started in Bournemouth as that's where most the people I knew lived and travelling to Weymouth was a pain for them =/ If you want to meet up for a skate around Wey I wouldn't say no.
I haven't seen many other people skating in Weymouth, although yesterday I came across two people on quads who had just given in to the cold as I arrived.

Thanks Darren I had no idea there was one at Ferndown! Though as I don't drive it'll be train and bus for me to get out there. I'll try and get out there!

Johnny, if you could get the train to Branksome station for around 530pm we could pick you up from the station if you wanted to come and try Ferndown one Sunday

That sounds brilliant to me, though I think this may be too short notice for you for me to attend it today and next week I am in Exeter but I would love to come up and join in when I can!

The nearest train to 5:30 arrives at 17:40.

If I can IÔÇÖd love come along, its unlikely this weekend, but if its every Sunday at 1pm, then just look out for a guy careening through the gardens and crashing into the mini green barriers ÔÇô thatÔÇÖll be me! :) (Dan)

Hey chaps, i live in Bournemouth and i'm a keen skater... do you guys still get together?! I usually end up in the castle-point car park during the winter as its undercover from the rain.

Hey Chaps - are you still doing group skates in Bournemouth? I've been looking for some fellow skaters for some time now, it'll be good to join you guys if its still going?
