Re: Yes, it's time to turn the lights out

It's not about donations. Vish has been very kind in hosting the site for a number of years. The problem is that there is hardly any traffic any more. No point having a forum around that's just rotting.

Re: Yes, it's time to turn the lights out

Facebook is good to dip into. You can nose around when you get bored with no real commitment. There most be other things that people are doing. I can't imagine that facebook can use up huge amounts of time.

How much has skating declined?

Re: Yes, it's time to turn the lights out

Judging by the current popular web sites it seems that attention span is generally very short. Far less interest in having discussion and blurting out 140 characters of utter bollocks is the mode. I suppose either forums aren't cool any more or just skating ones. Red Locker appears to be going in a ...

Yes, it's time to turn the lights out

Traffic has reduces so much lately that describing it as a trickle would be an exaggeration. It was good while it lasted but no point in letting for forum limp on any longer. We've had some good discussions over the years and I'm certainly going to miss the glory days. The doors will stay open for a...

Re: Bournemouth Skate?

Seeing as you are from Weymouth, wouldn't that be a better location for a skate? I know it's not as big as Bournemouth but it's a lot flatter. I'd be interested in joining in every other weekend if it was Weymouth but unfortunately can't make it as far as Bournemouth at that time of the day.

Re: UCP Gallery Perfs Missing

The gallery was a mod that was added in a previous version of the software. It went unused and therefore not added back after a site update. The database still contains a record for the gallery but the site doesn't contain any pages for it.

Re: bearings, lubicants & wheels - Facts vs marketing

They're bearings. They're really Not That Important - it's way into 1% gains territory and I'd be surprised if it made even that much difference. To a first approximation pretty much every single skater who obsesses about this stuff would see much better results from cleaning their bearings about 1...

London, Foo and Geeks seem to have the problem. The server seemed to be down for a short period earlier so maybe things have got a bit screwed up.

Re: looking for a teacher :)

I suspect Q will be along shortly and he'll definitely offer to teach you some tricks. If you want to pay for lessons then you con't do any better than skatefresh.com in my opinion. If you just want to pick things up from others for free and make some friends at the same time then go along to Hyde P...

Re: Spammers

I am led to believe that spammers are employing humans - very cheaply - to get past CAPTCHA and similar. Very little one can do about that right now. It was for that reason I made the registration question dependent upon having local knowledge or requiring them to go and google for the answer - whi...

That was a while ago. Vish loaded the latest version so the template is now back to default.

Re: it was 10 years ago today...

Anyone else recall that first one, and how exciting it seemed at the time? I was on the first skate too. The first Betty Blade (in 2000) was a trip down to Buckingham Palace and back. Obviously, such a long skate was only for the most advanced skaters. Beginners were given free SkateFresh lessons i...

Re: Forum control panel on a Mac

Is there any easy way to see who is using what theme from a query on the dattybase? just curious (I'm on the old one personally as everything else just looks wrong) Yes, but it doesn't give that much insight. I'm guessing that most people on prosilver are inactive and so they just show up as using ...

Maybe when we move to the new server we could take a vote on what themes to install and what we should use as the default. There are quite a few here if anyone is interested.

What he said. Chrome is generally a better browser, but it's necessary to switch back to Firefox in order for the control panel on here to work correctly.

You can now post again (I hope)

While playing around trying to prevent bots from registering I enabled the 'check IP against blacklist' option and this seems to have prevented anyone from posting. All should be well again now.
